Pandora effectively blocked out for ‘Rest of the world’

I checked today and, effectively, Pandora’s technical staff blocked the site for most countries. This is how the site looks like in Uruguay (click on the image to view in full size):

What to do now

There are articles on how to access Pandora from outside the US already. Basically, it tells you to use a public proxy. It is not working for me right now. Pandora might be identifying and blocking the proxy IP’s. Probably, the best thing to do is wait a little bit, until ‘the waters calm down’, and then use one of the listed public proxies.

If it keeps failing, someone could set up its own proxy and not tell anyone about it. Then, he/she might tell you how to set up such proxy and then, whoever feels like it, will have its own proxy just to listen to Pandora (There could also be other benefits gained too). Those are going to be very hard for anyone to catch.

Bottom line

The point that copyright stakeholders will have to eventually understand is that trying to ‘force’ people to pay for content is not going to work anymore in this era. This associations will have to be creative in order to

  • Attract audience for their content.
  • Make money out of their content without trying to charge for every step the consumers make.

That is why advertising is the main source of income for most folks on the Internet.

So, to the RIAA and fellow associations I would humbly suggest you start spending more money in there; instead of wasting yours, and the money of the people that makes your business possible, into lawyers.

    Dear RIAA,

I vow to never ever buy a genuine CD again because if you are a prick then I will be one too. An eye for eye - but you won’t get a dime. *flips the bird at the RIAA in anger*
