We announced a month ago that Google’s Presently was staring to go live, by enabling Gmail users to view ppt (Power Point) documents in the browser. This past months only a lucky few had the feature enabled.

Starting today, all Gmail users have the feature. Having tested it, I can now say that it is a sweet piece of work, as expected from Google.

Of course, while much of the blogosphere will go with the usual “this is nowhere close to Power Point” and “Why would I want to do this in a browser”, people aware of the trends and the magnitude of such milestones (specially Microsoft folks) understand the dimension of the threat, and should be going mad about it.

One thing it is missing, for the worries of Sun and the Open Document advocates: no ODP (ODF’s presentation format) support.

Once again, Google Blogoscoped broke the news. And once again, let me ask you for your help at the OpenGoo project. We shall have an Open Source Web Office suite (with ODF support) pretty soon.
