Biography
Here is a brief bio of Conrado Viña, a major geek.
Today
Conrado is a full time Entrepreneur, Software Engineer, and geek. A part time blogger, hang gliding pilot and bad comedian.
He runs Moove-iT with his buddy Martin. They do software development, consulting, and some teaching. They use mostly java, but at Moove-iT they are programming allike to experiment, so they are using python, ruby, and .Net as well.
Conrado is also founder of OpenGoo and an “Open Source Web Office Champion”.
CEPA
In 2004, with a recent engineering degree, Conrado took the chance and went on to create and manage an IT department at CEPA. Conrado loved the job. CEPA is dedicated to aid the fleet accidents and risk management at large corporations, which he believes is a great mission. Some differences with its board helped him make up his mind, and mooove on to concentrate on his business and blogs.
At this time he realized Dilbert is THE GREATEST comic strip! (Along with Quino’s and Gary Larson’s)
Datalogic
In 2000, while still in college (Universidad de la República), and with too much time, Conrado decided he had to start doing something with my life. Either get a job, or start a new band (it was three years since the last gig with FF). He did both. But the band sucked, and he was earning 700 US$ working 6 hrs a day in Datalogic. He was making a fortune! So he stuck to that, which allowed him to buy a queen sized bed, and a hang glider.
He had periods of very little social life.
He thought some of Dilbert was funny.
The College Years
Conrado quit playing games on his PC, nor did he get a console. He reduced his games spectrum to Mines Sweeper and Spider. He still plays the last, a lot more than he would like. He think it is his only addiction, and one that makes him very ashamed.
It took Conrado three years to decide whether he was going to be an engineer, a musician, or something else. Up to this date, of all the options, he resembles the first more than anything. He got his Engineering degree in 2003. But he is still not sure if that is what he wants to be.
Conrado was introduced to Dilbert’s strips. He didn’t get it.
The Teenage Years
Being a geek made High School hard. Conrado didn’t want to be a nerd, so he didn’t study much. But parents were very concerned abut his education so, after school he always had extracurricular activities (Learning Japanese for 8 years being the most absurd probably, since he can’t even remember what “konnichiwa” means) Changing High Schools was also hard at the time, but it has left Conrado with plenty of good friends, so he likes how it turned out.
Lucas Art’s were Conrado’s favourite games. Odd note: Doom was his first and last id Software game.
Childhood
Conrado was born in Belgium, 1979, but lived in Uruguay since he was 4 years old.
His first game console was an Atari. Later, his parents refused to buy him a Nintendo (or any other game console), but his were one of the first families to own a PC (and a 1988 Japanese notebook!) in the neighbourhood. So he started early on PC games, and Basic and Logo programming.
He sucked at (soccer, the only) football. He still does.

What an exciting Geek life… Now, you need to get your name on a history textbook! =)
February 21st, 2007 at 11:18 pmHi kn! Thank you for your comments. To respond, I would like to quote Gaston [Eric Idle] at Part VI B of “The Meaning of Life”:
“You know, one day, my mother, she put me on her knee and she said to me, ‘Gaston, my son, the world is a beautiful place. You must go into it and… love everyone, try to make everyone happy, and bring peace and contentment everywhere you go,’ and so, I became a waiter. Well, it’s… it’s not much of a philosophy, I know… but, well… fuck you. I can live my own life in my own way if I want to. Fuck off.”
So, anyway, what are you up to? Where are you from?
About this page (my bio), it is a work in progress. Wait until I finish it. It gets even more exciting!
