About The Geek

Conrado Viña came to the realization that he is a geek through a slow but consistent process. Here is a short bio of Conrado, focused on the events that lead him to the geek state he is now in.

He became an Open Source Web Office Evangelist recently. That should explain why so many of the posts are about the Web Office.

Besides being a geek, and among many embarrassing facets, Conrado is an entrepreneur, a former IT Manager, a hang gliding pilot, a musician, and a pathetic frustrated comedian. But he assumes that being a geek is what he does best.

Ergonomics

Spending a lot of time sitting (or laying) in front of PC monitors could be very damaging for your health. That is a big concern at MeTheGeek.

Design and Fashion

But ergonomics have to come in style. And not necessarily ‘geek fashion’ or ‘geek design’ (If that means anything). As much as Conrado likes to portray himself as a nerd, he buys his own clothes now, is aware of some fashion trends, and even goes to extremes like spending almost as much money on clothing and furniture as he spends on gadgets. He champions the ‘well dressed nerd’ cause.

Music

As previously stated, Conrado is a musician (or so he believes). He enjoys music and has a big CD and MP3 collection. But, as the majority of the population (did you ever listen to radio?) he did not pay for most of the music he listened. Current events around the ‘music industry’ (I hate that term) are making Conrado concerned on how to make the ‘music industry’ more about the music, and less about the industry.

Movies

Conrado is no filmographist, and he thinks There’s something about Mary is the best comedy he ever saw. So there you have it: he will talk about movies, but you have been warned of his criteria.

Books

Most of the literature covered at MeTheGeek is of Spanish language. Probably not very known among the majority of the audience of this blog, but hey, there are many hidden literature gems in Spanish.

Pathetic frustrated comedian stuff

Trying to be funny and not making it is very frustrating. But it’s like an illness: Conrado can’t help it. The worst part is that, in this case, it seems to be genetic. Now, take someone with this limitation, and then add the fact that he has to write in a non native language.

So, when faced with the many goofs on this blog, take into account the sad and stressful situation the writer is in, and please be sympathetic.

One last thing: In case you didn’t notice, the picture in the banner is a personification of a ‘nerd’, which is a different kind of person than ‘geek’. And I was posing!
